Friends of Rippey reminder: There will be a Christmas breakfast on Dec. 6 from 8 to 11 am.  Egg casserole, sausage, fruit, cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice will be served for a free will offering.  A quilt donated by Sharon Riley will be offered for a silent auction.

Rippey Methodist Church feeds Central football team: The Rippey United Methodist Church prepared to feed the Central football team as they returned from their game with Buena Vista Saturday, Nov. 8.  This has been a tradition started in 1985 by Velda DeMoss when her son Marc played football for Central.  Velda loved her football boys, and this was a long road trip for them, and she felt Rippey was a half-way stop for them to get some good home cooking!

The football team arrived to a large salad bar, homemade pies, and a main course of chicken breasts, pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn, dinner rolls and a gallon of milk on each table.  They were served family style by a strong group from the church.  In 1-1/2 hours, all 88 members were fed, enjoyed a display of Central College memorabilia from Rippey alumni and departed after giving their team chant, led by player Schyler Bardole.  We had a little baggie of Greene County items donated by Peoples Trust & Savings Bank and Midland Power, as well as an item with Rippey Savings Bank on it, for each member to have as a reminder of their Rippey visit.

It is an event enjoyed by the Central football team and the Rippey Methodist Church!  It is a tradition we will always continue with our angel, Velda DeMoss’s blessing.

Others who came to enjoy the meal, which was started those many years by Velda , were Marc and Shannon DeMoss of Rockwell City, Beth DeMoss of Jefferson, Shawn and Lori DeMoss of Rippey and Linda Hampton, Sierra and Sophia of Chandler, AZ.

Rippey Lions Club: The Rippey Lions Club met Thursday, Nov. 6.  The meeting was called to order by president Nancy Burrow.  Mary Liebich and Nancy Burrow coordinated the potluck meal.  Plans were completed for the “Super Spaghetti Supper” on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 4:30 to 7 pm at the Rippey United Methodist Church. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, dessert and drinks. The free will offering will be used for community projects.

Following the business meeting, Denny Lautner challenged the group with an Iowa trivia quiz. Dick Bardole was the winner with Nancy Hanaman in second place. The interesting questions included  two Iowa towns starting with “Q”-Quimby and Quasqueton; the location of the other city names Des Moines-located in Washington State; the location of the Matchstick Museum of Pat Acton’s-Gladbrook; and the number one tourist attraction in Iowa-RVP 1876 in Jefferson. The next meeting will be Nov. 20 at the Rippey United Methodist Church.

Happenings in and around Rippey:

Minnesota wedding: Connie Neese of Rippey and Kate and Molly Neese of Grand Junction drove to Mankato, MN, last week-end to attend the wedding of Lucas Neese to Krista Albrecht of Mankato.  Lucas is the oldest son of Steve and Deanna of Grand Junction/Lake Crystal, MN.  The wedding was held in the Immanuel Lutheran Church.  This church had a beautiful pipe organ.  The colors of the bridesmaids’ gowns were in burnt orange.  Ella Neese was a flower girl and also presented the rings. The reception was held in the City Center of Mankato with the traditional dinner and dance.

Other family members who attended were Emily Neese of Ames, Jason and Denise Doerhoff and boys of Ankeny, and Barbara, David, Riley, Delaney and Keagan Ovenshire from Palo.

Jean Borgeson met her sister Elayne Bice and their friend Judy Martin for lunch Nov. 6 to celebrate Jean’s birthday.   Another friend, Pam Sanders, who was also dining in the same restaurant, visited a while, also.  Judy and Pam attended Grand Junction High School together and hadn’t seen each other for many years, so that was a treat.

Connie Neese, Kate Neese and Jean Borgeson took advantage of the National Honor Society’s potato bar supper before attending the musical, “The Music Man” at the Greene County High School Friday evening. It was a lovely performance.

Birthday surprise! Jean Borgeson was surprised (and speechless, if you can believe it) on Saturday morning when she arrived at the home of Sarah Borgeson, Kane and Kale, for what was supposed to be a birthday breakfast with them.  The first people she saw were her daughter and granddaughters, Linda Hampton, Sierra and Sophia, from Glendale, AZ, who had flown in for a three day visit.  Even Charlie Gunn, who was spending the weekend with Kane, was getting a taste of playing with a -year old!

Later that evening, Jean, Linda and the girls went to the church where they enjoyed a fabulous supper that was being served to the Central football team.  Linda was a manager for four years at Central and three of the coaches, as well as Marc DeMoss, who played for the Flying Dutchmen, enjoyed a reunion.

Virgene Morse joined the Borgeson family for dinner at Paton on Sunday, Nov. 9.  Those attending were Linda Borgeson, Sierra and Sophia, , Robert Borgeson of Jamaica, Michael and Jill Borgeson, Jace and Seth, Alan and Sarah Borgeson, Kane and Kale all of Rippey, and Charlie Gunn of Grand Junction.  The birthday of Jean Borgeson was celebrated. Cousin Judy Wilson, who lives 101 steps from the restaurant, walked over to say hi to the group, which was a nice touch to a great day.

Linda Hampton, Sierra and Sophia, and Jean Borgeson visited Sunday afternoon in the home of Jack and Dixie Slight, in Perry.  Their family had gathered for the weekend, and although J. B. and his boys had left, their girls, Kayla Marr of CO, and Jodi Schuttler of Perry,  their families, along with Al  and Rhonda Slight and children of Storm Lake were still there, so it was a good visit with these longtime friends.

Linda and the girls left for home on Monday afternoon.  Their husband and brother, Blake and Jayden, were glad to see their “girls” and to have their household back to normal. Jean’s families, as well as some friends, were very proud of their “sneaky” ways!
